How a shared board works
- Your board gets its own number. Save it in everyone's phone as the board's name. A QR flyer and a contact card do that in one tap.
- Anyone on the board texts it. Mid-drive, mid-meeting, by voice: “Hey Siri, text Garage Board order ground rods for truck 37.” The card is on the TV in seconds.
- Done comes off, nothing fades. Text done ground rods or done 12, or tap it on your phone. Open cards turn amber at three days and red at seven, and stay until someone clears them.
The superintendent decides who is on the board, names the columns (Trouble, Trees, Stock, Street Lights, Trucks and Shop to start), and can put a name, a crew, or a truck on a card as a label. Texts from numbers that are not on the board wait for approval and never reach the TV.
What it is not
- Not tracking. The board shows what is open, never who did how much. There are no per-person counts, reports, or exports. Ever. Read exactly what is recorded.
- Not an app. Capture is a text message. The web page is for seeing the board and tapping done; nobody has to open it.
- Not for emergencies or outages. It is a whiteboard you can text, not a dispatch system.
Five things to know
- Trees, Stock, or Trouble: at the start files a note in that column. So does #tree, or a word like leaning, ordered or brush. A note about a truck with nothing else to go on lands under Trucks. The rest get sorted automatically and can be moved with one tap.
- Jay, at the start, tell the tree crew to, for crew 2, or truck 37 anywhere puts that label on the card.
- done plus a few words clears the matching card; done 12 clears card 12 exactly. A miss gets a reply, never a silent nothing.
- undo puts back the last card you cleared, up to a day later.
- Urgent, at the start pins it to the top. remind me tomorrow 7am … gives it a time.
Price
Private boards are free. A shared board is a flat monthly price per board, which covers its own phone number and the TV. During the current trial we invoice by hand, monthly or annual, and towns get a purchase order. Ask for the sheet.
